Frequently Asked Questions

What types of projects are appropriate for a capstone course?
Good capstone projects align sponsor needs with capstone course academic requirements in the specific major. Join us for annual Engineering Project Showcase to see hundreds of sponsored capstone examples.
How many students are involved in a capstone project?
Each project is assigned to a team of 4-6 engineering seniors who invest significant time on the project. In most majors, the capstone projects are executed over a two semester period.
What is the time commitment expected by the sponsors?
For best outcomes, sponsors are expected to present the project at the start of the semester, provide regular feedback to the team, and participate in mid and end of semester presentations.
Is there a cost to sponsor a project?
Yes. Sponsorship includes a fee that covers project expenses such as materials and supplies, software, and team support.
What are the funding options for sponsoring a capstone project?
  • For fall semesters, submit ideas by June 30.
  • For spring semesters, submit ideas by October 30.
What are the funding options for sponsoring a capstone project?
Funding can be provided in two ways: 1) as a gift through the Texas A&M Foundation when there is no expected project deliverable, or 2) through a sponsored capstone agreement when there is a project deliverable.
How do I propose a project?
Submit a brief project idea on this project form. We will provide assistance in placing the project with the appropriate engineering major.
